South Yorkshire County School’s championships

Jess Keating led Mundella Primary school to victory in the girls under 11 category of the South Yorkshire School’s championships, held recently at the English Institute of Sport. Jess’s two wins and other contributions from team mates Anaiah Atoyebi, Ronnie-Mae Mason and Milley Carl secured a 5-3 win over Hallam Girls.

Bramley Sunnyside ‘A’ took the plaudits in the boy’s event with a comfortable win over Greystones ‘A’, thanks to efforts from Connor Halford, Riley Hastle, Daniel Heap and Tom Quarta.

In the under 13 boy’s competition, Silverdale edged out Tapton 3-1 with wins from Charlie Duke, Will Stringer and George Henderson.

In the narrowest finish of the day, having tied 2-2 in the final of the boy’s under 16 section, Birkdale and Silverdale were separated on points count back – 70 58. Jake Chan and Tom Clark both scored for the winning Birkdale side, as James Chenery and Luke Burgess replied for Silverdale.

Wickersley ousted Silverdale from top spot in the under 19’s boys category with wins for Adam Szabo (2), Lewis Ellams (1), Edmund Lu (1) and Joshua Drake (1). Silverdale’s Chun Cho provided the severest test in response with a brace.

Special thanks go to the organisers - Phil Wright – Sheffield junior league secretary and Jim Kenny – Sheffield league general secretary.
