Wadsley Bridge A kept pace with Hallam Grange C at the top of Division 5 with a 7-3 victory away to Hallam Grange D. Hallam Grange C travelled to Vulcan J and returned with both points and a 10-0 whitewash. Northern General D also recorded a 10-0 whitewash as they travelled to Crookes J. Ben Bullen-Baldi, Roger Hales and Mike Prendagast all unbeaten for the visitors.
The division 4 title race is hotting up as Shiregreen B hosted Albert Premier C, the divisions early pacesetters. Albert Premier C’s trio Jeremy Hamshaw, Ben Crapper and Matt Blake found themselves 4-3 infront after taking the doubles and duly converted 2 of the last 3 sets to complete a 6-4 victory. Only a point now separates the top 2. The return fixture could prove to be the title decider. Abbeydale H kept themselves in the top 3 with a 6-4 victory over High Green A.
In division 3 the top 3 all registered wins in pursuit of the title and promotion. Top of the table Abbeydale G won 9-1 away at Abbeydale F, Clifton A travelled to Hallam Grange A and won 10-0, Terry Curran rolling back the years with 3 3-0 victories for Clifton. Vulcan G played host to their F team and won 7-3 thanks to a maximum from Zaigham Mohammed. Crookes G look destined for relegation with their ninth straight defeat at home to Hallam Grange B.
Andy Baxter register a fine treble as his Crookes D team won 7-3 away at Shiregreen A in their division 2 fixture. Scorpions B stayed bottom as they lost 8-2 to Northern General B. A Mark Seddon treble and a brace from the better late than never Helmuth Osborne propelled Vulcan E to a 7-3 victory away to Swallownest B. Northern General continued their winning run with a routine 8-2 win away to Vulcan D.
Stocksbridge A followed up their big win over Crookes A with a comfortable win over Crookes C. Stocksbridge B managed to squeeze home 6-4 against Albert Premier A with Simon Pugh unbeaten. Crookes B beat Abbeydale B 8-2, Steve Mason and Isobel Ashley both taking the notable scalp of Warren Li Kam Wa. Crookes A overcame last week’s setback with a resounding 10-0 win at home to Vulcan A. Vulcan B lost at home to Abbeydale B 6-4 to leave Vulcan B and C along with Crookes C battling to avoid relegation at the foot of the table.
