Wednesday 18th January

 Week 8 of the Sheffield table tennis league saw Stocksbridge A host defending champions Crookes A in a potentially pivotal clash as to where the title ends up. Jack Grant, Stephen and Andrew Horsfield prevailed with a brace apiece as Stocksbridge stole a march on their rivals with a close but well deserved 7-3 Victory. Crookes B kept up the pace with Stocksbridge A at the top of the table with a comfortable 8-2 victory at home to Vulcan B as did Stocksbridge B winning 7-3 away to Vulcan C. Crookes C remain at the bottom of the table as they suffered a 7-3 loss at 2 man Abbeydale A.

Top versus bottom in Division 3 saw Abbeydale G thrash Crookes G 9-1 to carry on their excellent start to the season.  Clifton A stayed in second place as the trio of Terry Curran, Viktor Varnai and Tony Lingard claimed a 6-4 victory at home to Vulcan G. Keiran Alvey was undefeated for Albert Premier B in their 5-5 draw away at Hallam Grange B. Vulcan F and Abbeydale E also played out a 5-5 draw with no one from either team undefeated.

High Green A claimed their first win of the season as a Mick Large hat trick inspired his team to a 6-4 win at home to Crookes H. Clifton B beat Shiregreen B 6-4 with Jim Pugh undefeated. The Abbeydale J trio of Jake Chan, Roger Bannister and Sarah Thorne ran out 9-1 winners at home to Wisewood A. Dronfield’s struggles continued as they travelled to Vulcan H, Terry Charles was the man of the match for Vulcan as they ran out 7-3 winners to ensure Dronfield stay rooted to the foot of the table.

Second placed Wadsley Bridge A easily dispatched bottom club Vulcan J in their division 5 clash with a 10-0 whitewash. Top of the table Hallam C also handed out a comprehensive beating to Vulcan L 9-1. Roger Arkell and Jack Wilson both enjoyed a good nights work as they stayed unbeaten on the night to propel their Hallam Grange B side to a well deserved 8-2 victory over Tapton Hill B. Pat Thorley took a fine treble as Northern General D overcome High Green B with a 7-3 scoreline.

Shiregreen D recorded an 8th straight victory with a comfortable 9-1 win at home to Albert Prem D. Shiregreen E beat Wadsley Bridge D 7-3 at home with Ryan Henger recording a treble for the hosts. Chris Meek, Chris Leviston and Emma Hickman combined for Abbeydale K to win 10-0 at home and for the loss of one solitary game against Telecom B.
