Week 6 of the Sheffield table tennis saw 2 of the Division 1 title contenders involved in club derbys with Stocksbridge A playing their B team and Crookes A playing their C team. Crookes A came away with a comfortable 8-2 victory whilst Stocksbridge A left it late to snatch a 6-4 win with Jack Grant taking home the family bragging rights beating his dad Bill 3-1 to claim both points. Crookes B travelled to Vulcan C and were able to carve out a routine 8-2 victory. Albert Premier A’s trio of Richard Element, Ernest Mpundu and Alex Tilley whitewashed Vulcan B 10-0.
Tim Wright was in fine form for Abbeydale C taking a fine hat trick and combining with Glyn Hawley in the doubles to secure a 6-4 win away to Crookes D. Vulcan E only had 2 players and paid the price as they were beaten 7-3 at home by Shiregreen A. Vulcan D took both points home from their trip to Swallownest B with a 6-4 win. Dave Kirkup provided some stern resistance taking a fine treble for the home side. Swallownest A faired better as Craig Straws hat trick of 3-0 wins led his side to 9-1 victory over Scorpions B.
Clifton A are hanging onto Abbeydale G’s coat tails in the division 3 title race and managed to see out a 7-3 victory over Crookes F. Abbeydale G recorded a sixth straight victory and it was as comprehensive as they come with a 10-0 whitewash against Hallam Grange A. Hallam Grange B didn’t fare much better as they were beaten at home by Vulcan G. Vulcan F on the other hand were beaten 9-1 at home to Abbeydale F. The Albert Premier B trio of Kieran Alvey, Shaun Alvey and Dave Marsh travelled to Crookes G and returned with both points and a 10-0 win.
Top of the Division 4 table Albert Premier C dropped their first point of the season at home to Crookes H. Dronfield will feel unlucky to lose at home 6-4 to Abbeydale H, Brian Allen was unbeaten for Abbeydale. An Andy Dawson hat trick inspired Wisewood A to a 6-4 victory over Vulcan H. Clifton B had a Russ Drayton hat trick to thank as they beat High Green A 8-2.
Divsion 6 saw first versus second as Shiregreen D met Vulcan M. Likely to play a big part in this years division 6 title race Rob Hulubei put in an impressive performance and won all 3 to ensure Shiregreen kept up their 100% record with a 7-3 win. The Tapton derby clash between the A and B teams went the way of the B team 7-3.
