National Veteran's championships

Last weekend, at the veteran’s national championships staged in Wolverhampton, several Sheffield league players had notable successes winning three titles.

In the over 40’s men’s doubles, Simon Pugh (Stocksbridge) together with his partner Chris Clinton from Hull, triumphed over Stephen Scowcroft & Andrew Wilkinson.

The over 40’s mixed doubles crown was retained by husband and wife combination Mark Short (Crookes) and Sarah (Swallownest). 

Number two seed Mark gained the runners up spot in the over 40’s men’s singles, losing out to the favourite - Lorestas Trumpauskas, whilst Sarah reached the semi finals of the over 40’s women’s singles.

Chesterfield’s Pat Thorley (Northern General) won the over 50’s women’s consolation singles event.

 

The annual Sheffield awards evening, is taking place at Farm Road Sports and Social Club on Friday the 18th May commencing at 7:30pm. Sandra Deaton, chair of Table Tennis England and Martin Green, vice president of Sheffield United football club will be on hand to distribute the awards and prizes. Entertainment will consist of the singing duo “Riviera” in addition to a quiz, auction and a raffle.
